Kamkalima
Arabic e-learning platform helping K-12 schools teach and assess the Arabic language
Kamkalima is a Beirut, Lebanon-based Arabic-language e-learning platform for K-12 schools. It was founded by two teachers, Siroun Shamigian and Nisrine Makkouk, who began developing the idea in 2014. The company builds a digital curriculum companion for teaching and assessing Modern Standard Arabic: teachers get lesson plans, automated assignment-correction tools and performance analytics, while students in grades 4-12 get a digital reading library with comprehension and vocabulary tests. The platform is licensed to schools rather than sold to individuals, and the company reports serving more than 160 schools across Lebanon, Jordan and Gulf countries including the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar and Oman. Kamkalima raised a $1.5 million Series A round in November 2018 from Beirut-based Phoenician Funds and government-backed investor iSME. It offers a web dashboard as well as iOS and Android apps for students.
