Gifty is an Algiers-based fintech startup launched in 2023 by Abderrahmane Anemiche, offering a mobile-first digital wallet app for everyday payments in Algeria's still cash-dominated market. Users top up their Gifty balance via a local bank card or a network of partner retail outlets, then use it to pay utility bills (electricity, gas, water) by scanning a QR code, recharge mobile phone credit for all Algerian operators, buy digital gift cards (including for services like Netflix and Spotify), shop from a catalog of over 2 million items via partner merchants, and send Gifty points as gifts. The app is available on iOS, Android and Huawei AppGallery, has surpassed 100,000 downloads on Google Play, and the company has stated ambitions to pursue banking approval to become a fuller financial services provider.
